Fungal infection in humans is caused by an overgrowth of beneficial fungi in the body or from the presence of harmful ones. Vaginal yeast infection is caused by a type of fungus Candida albicans (as mentioned previously), and the condition is otherwise known as vaginal candidiasis. However, yeast infection can be prevented and controlled to a certain extent by practicing good personal hygiene, refraining from having sex with infected partners, avoiding excessive use of antibiotics or immunosuppressive drugs. Women suffering from conditions such as diabetes, HIV / AIDS, etc., are also prone to this condition.
